Melanie Harlow is an author I am always excited and eager to pick up. Hideaway Heart is her newest release and second book in the Cherry Tree Harbor series. This novel is delightfully charming and the perfect example of Harlow in her element. Harlow’s writing is well paced, deliciously sensual, and delightfully plotted. Harlow balances humor, romance and tension with a deft hand. Her characters blossom and the world of Cherry Tree Harbor continues to be beautifully expanded and enriched. This celebrity/bodyguard, force proximity romance perfect focuses on the relationship building over the celebrity aspects and it worked so well for me.
Kelly Jo and Xander are such a strong and wonderful couple. Their relationship starts out on a humorous an opposite foot side of things but swiftly grows into one of deep trust. Harlow is able to perfectly depict the growth of their relationship with moments of open conversation. These two are willing to listen to the other and truly hear each other which gives their relationship a depth of understanding. The care they show each other easily moves into a place of trust in which they can explore the physical side of their relationship while processing their growing feelings. Harlow shows us the fears of falling in love, the uncertainties of a long distance romance while also showing the care and communication that goes into a relationship that will make it one that is balanced and supportive. Kelly Jo and Xander balance and support each other at each step of their journey, they safely explore their feelings and this shows the strong foundation they have built with each other that can withstand the test of time.
Melanie Harlow works the charm of a small town romance into this celebrity romance which really creates a well balanced feeling to this relationship. If you are a Harlow fan this is sure to be one that will delight. Definitely give this novel a try even if you are not a huge celebrity romance fan, I think you are going to find a fun, romantic and sweet read with in the pages.
