The Racing Rogue series by Cara Maxwell is currently one of my top favorite delights. Each installment is the perfect morsel to charm me and excite me for the next installment. I love the way Maxwell has interconnected all of these novels creating the perfect through line for the reader to be enchanted to pick up the next installment. Riding with a Rake is a sweet and lovely addition to these series, that has a slightly less direct focus on the interlinking plot, but just enough to show a side story in this syndicate and when we might expect to happen next.
This novel of Ursula and Ford's romance. These two happen to have the chance to meet when they are both on a mission. Ursula is currently traveling across England to reach the man she believes to have an understanding with. And Ford, out of family obligation and love, is currently on the way to pick up a prize horse and stay one step ahead of the syndicate. These two find themselves in the company of each other, working their way on foot to their destinations, while working together and questioning what they both truly want out of life, they just might find their happily ever after.
I absolutely adore a road trip romance and Cara Maxwell crafts with one with delight and fun. Of course we have the delightful only one bed trope, forced proximity, camping and sleeping outdoors which really help to highlight the way that Ford and Ursula are a perfect partnership. This novel is light and fun, the banter between Ford and Ursula is charming, and their relationship is endearing. I love the simplicity of the plotting of this novel which really helped to show case the building of Ford and Ursula's relationship. I really love the build up of chemistry between these two and how their attraction to each other is the perfect thing to make them question what choices they are continuing to make. The steam level in this is sweetly sensual and Ford is always sure to make sure that Ursula and him are both consenting as they explore a physical side to their relationship.
I would highly recommend this novel if you adore this series this is a lovely installment, if you love a road trip romance this is perfection and if you delight in a quick and simple read this will definitely hit the mark. Cara Maxwell is definitely a must read historical romance author to pick up if you have not.
