Child of Summer by A.T. Abbott

A.T. Abbott's Child of Summer is a really lovely debut. Abbott's writing is gentle, light and clear which perfectly reflects the tone of this romance. Abbott has a really lovely grasp on how to softly weave her romance with care and understanding. This novel is sweet, engaging and a really beautiful example of a seemingly simple romance. Abbott embraces the classic beats of a historical romance and gently weaves her tale. This novel is truly a character and romance focused one, and I found that Abbott shows her love for the genre and a deep understanding of how to build a relationship with care and love.

This novel is a beautiful debut and I was swiftly swept away into this love story. I was charmed by our hero, who is an absolutely charming gentleman. He is calm and caring and not swift to judge, and he is the perfect hero for the heroine. The heroine has learned to be true to herself and survive without too much bitterness after she is ruined during her first season (content note for sexual assault). I found the heroine to be kind and thoughtful. I really enjoyed watching the romance between these two grow. There is care and gentleness to their chemistry and Abbott beautifully illustrates this through their interactions, soft touches, understanding of each other and care and awareness of the other. Their relationship is romantic, there is a light sensuality to it, and their happily ever after is fully gratifying.

If a low angst, deliciously sweet, and beautifully romantic novel is what you are looking for-then Abbott's debut is well worth the read. I am looking forward to Abbott's next novel and watching her writing grow.
