Book Review

Claire Brooks does it again in the second installment of her Cedar Ridge series, where the next Caldwell sibling meets their match! Brooks’s writing is easy and clear, giving it this comforting and conversational feeling that makes it really easy to engage with and fall into. Her characters are fun, interesting, humorous and heartfelt. Her small town, the Caldwell family, and the complications of life all work hand in hand to develop this slow-burn, sensual romance to life.
Free Falling brings Theo Caldwell back to the small town he grew up in, and his family still lives in, with a 12 year old daughter her never knew about. Theo is a ladies man, he never through he would settle down or have kids, but after a tragedy he learns he is already a father, and through trial, error, support of family and friends, and opening his heart and learning to grow, he becomes a really wonderful dad. Amidst the turmoil of new found fatherhood, is the small town support and a slower pace of life that brings Theo and Scout together as father and daughter. It is in this town Theo also is really confronted with the sizzle chemistry between him and Brynne, his sister’s best friend. I adore watching a playboy learn to be a family man and fall head over heels for a woman he just can’t stop thinking of! This romance is gentle, sensual and slow, as these two rediscover each other and take a chance on what they might become. They dance around each other and their flirting is off the charts. Then at the heart is the beautiful relationship they both develop with Scout on their own as well as how they support each other in the care and unconditional love of Scout.
Claire Brooks with a beautiful level of care and understanding brings to life the story of building a family you never thought or wished you had, but also one that you would never give up. Watching Theo grow into a dad and boyfriend is equal parts heartbreaking, sexy, frustrating and heartwarming. Brooks is easily becoming an author I am going to immediately pick up and I would strongly recommend her works!
Thank you so much to Claire Brooks and her team for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
