I Wish You Were Mine by Jessica Peterson

Warmth and charm are the center of this lovely single father, nanny, surprise pregnancy romance. Jessica Peterson's writing is accessible and clear, her pacing is great, and her characters are interesting and well developed. This novel does have some content warning around pregnancy and some pregnancy risks which play out in the later half, but Peterson does this with care and clarity. I Wish You Were Mine is the second book in the Harbour Village series, and it is the first book I have read from Jessica Peterson and is sure not to be my last. This novel is easily read as a standalone and has left me curious and interested in reading the first in the series and awaiting the next! It is clear from this novel that the series is one that intermingles and overlaps in time line but Peterson keeps the main romance the clear focus in this novel with the light understanding that the other books in this series will just open up this world and friend group.

This nanny single father romance is also an age gap one, but it is clear from page one that these two-Maren and Tuck are two perfect matches. I love that Maren brings hope, understanding and love back into Tuck's life, and while he still has some obstacles to overcome, he sees Mare for the gift that she is. This novel is layered with chemistry and sensuality. Maren and Tuck have a connection that is built in trust and through their physical interactions they are truly able to express what they are afraid to say. This novel does a lovely job of showing the growing relationship between Maren and Katie (Tuck's daughter) and how their relationship is just as important as the romantic one. Peterson does a wonderful job balancing a budding romance, with the care of an impressionable child, as well as the building of a new family.

This novel has heart and humor, understanding and struggle, care and romance. If you are looking for a romance that is fast paced, sexy, and heartening, than this is the novel for you. I am very glad I pick up this book by Jessica Peterson, and I am looking forward to exploring her back list!
