Elizabeth O’Roark brings the angst and forbidden alive in this Stepbrother romance. O’Roark’s writing quickly engages the reader welcoming them into this romance that has layers of ghost story, renovation, tension, heartache and longing. My Favorite Lost Cause explores what it takes to finally stand up for yourself and fight for the love you deserve. O’Roark’s characters dance to life and are surrounded by the coziness of a large estate renovation in a small town.

Maren and Charlje are step siblings with big lives and complicated family dynamics. They did not grow up as siblings so they have always had this underlying tension and chemistry between them. While renovating Charlie’s late mother’s estate these two are forced to really challenge the other and learn to fight for their true desires. Outside of their families orbit and the big city, it becomes easily apparent what they both really want. But of course O’Roark does not make their road easy, their are many things standing in there way outside of their inner angst and inability to truly communicate with the other. Through small actions and the way they silently and softly support each other their true natures really come to life.

O’Roark is one of those authors I will always reach for and pick up her newest novels. I really enjoyed this romance and think it weaves together some well love tropes and settings to create this story that was a wonderful weekend escape.
