Wow! Just wow! Juliette Cross gets better and better with each book! This novel is such a beautiful, swoon worthy, sensually steamy and endearing romance. Cross’s writing is conversational and engaging, this novel is well paced and the character’s are dazzling in the best way! This is Juliette’s first contemporary romance and she knocks it out of the park. This novel is a must read for anyone who loves romance, I truly believe you will be delighted and charmed through out!
This is the second chance romance between Lola and Jed, they have know each other for years, they were both in high school together and had many of the same classes. Lola’s locker was also the locker right under Jed’s. In school Lola was the smart and bookish girl who dreamed of a big career, she has been working in the marketing field but when her company downsizes she is out of a job and back in her small hometown, running a dating podcast with her best friend and waiting for her next chance. Jed was a football star in high school, whose sports career was cut short, he had been back in town helping his father out after a major stroke and he is also a firefighter. When these two cross paths again, Jed knows he can’t let this opportunity pass by of finally catching the girl.
If you are looking for a hero who falls first this is such a beautiful story of second chances and unrequited love. Jed is a determined man, unafraid of his true feelings and ready to do whatever necessary to show Lola that they are meant for each other. Lola is smart and independent, she dreams big and is ambitious, so she works hard to make those dreams come true. I love that Jed sees these qualities as important pieces that make Lola who she is and he never wants her to give up on her dreams, he just hopes to show her that they can both dream and work hard together. Juliette does a really wonderful job of balancing out preconceived notions from high school and showing the truths of the matter through both Jed and Lola. Who doesn’t love a hero who has pined for the heroine for forever, and she likes him to-but never realized his true feelings. Jed is just the perfect book boyfriend, he is truly devoted to his heroine, he wants to put her first while also being up front about his true feelings, and he is just so sweet and caring in all moments with Lola. Watching Lola’s walls breakdown around Jed is so delightful! Juliette just perfectly portrays their relationship as they grow to understand each other in present time while reconciling with the past misperceptions. Juliette also knows how to write a sensual and steamy romance, these two have chemistry that is off the charts and Juliette knows how to show this through actions and touchs that beautifully build their relationship to an even more physical level.
Definitely pick up a copy of this book, you will not be disappointed. I can not gush enough about what an absolutely delightful and heart warmingly sensual romance this is! I can not wait to see where Juliette goes from here, with each new story I am continuously impressed with her mastery of character and romance.
