A solid romance with a light sprinkling of suspense/action is exactly what you will get with Stolen Vows. Penelope Black's Avalon Falls series centers the Carter Family and each installment has felt beautifully original and charmingly familiar. Black's writing is softly sweet and delightfully engaging. Stolen Vows has this gentle ease to the romance that slowly unfolds through sensual attraction, and a slow burn. Black's characters are interesting and relatable, the plot is truly driven by feelings and discovery of each other. I was easily drawn into this romance, I have loved watching this family each find their happily ever afters and I have truly delighted in the feeling of newness each novel has while still complimenting the other installments.
Stolen Vows is a marriage of convenience romance between Graham and Frankie. These two have had chance meetings over the last ten years and now fate is finally in their favor. Penelope Black beautifully crafts this novel with a sense of gentleness that works really well for the soft nature of this romance. I loved watching Graham and Frankie fall into a comfortable pattern with each other. I loved the sizzling tension of chemistry that burn underneath and draws these two together. I love the anticipation, I love the trust and I love the understanding that these two easily fall into. Their romance definitely has a slow burn to it, they slowly work up to a physicality to their relationship and it works really well to express the development and pace they have taken in their relationship. Their romance is really about finding each other and making a decision to be a family no matter what outside forces (mainly on Frankie's side which drive the secondary action) might try to tear them apart.
I love a romance that really heavily features the development of a relationship and has a plot driven mainly by that development. If that is something you enjoy than Stolen Vows and Penelope Black might just be the book and author for you! I have highly enjoyed Black and this series and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is intrigued by her premises!
