Don't enter into Burning Ember lightly, this is a true MC romance that deals with many heavy topics and also potential triggers (so please look those up if you need to). If you do pick up this novel, know you will be taken on a journey that will be hard sometimes but ultimately in the end you will have a cathartic journey. Darby Briar's writing quickly drew me into the story and kept me engaged throughout. Her crafting of characters is wonderful, they are multi-layered, have incredibly difficult stakes, and feel deeply. If you are ready to go on an emotional journey with lots of outlying plot details than Burning Ember might be the perfect start to a series for you.
This novel to me really became about resilience and fighting for oneself, which puts Ember at the center to become a strong heroine learning her worth. Maverick has his own issues that he must work through to see that Ember is not like those from his past. This novel is the struggle, the push and pull, and the uncertainty about putting your faith in someone else. This novel is full MC club with all the dark and gritty nature of what that means. This novel is definitely the foundational start to a series and lays out many threads and plot points that I am sure will carry through.
This novel will not be for everyone, but if you love a darker romance, if you love an MC club, you love supporting indie authors, then this is a novel worth exploring.
Thank you to Grey’s Promotions for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
