Book Review

The magic and romance of small town Scotland is alive and well in Samantha Young's newest series—Scottish Isles, and the first installment, Half-Light Harbor. Young's skills of romantic suspense shine in this grumpy/sunshine, age gap romance. Young's tone is like a warm and comforting hug, as she vividly brings to life the setting and characters. Balancing the full range of human emotions, Young crafts her characters with clarity and authenticity, making them feel like people I know and what to be friends this. Young's love for her country shines through with the beauty in which she brings to life her world, and I love escaping into the Scottish Isles and dreaming of this beautiful community.
This is Ramsey and Tierney's romance, two people who are both escape parts of their pasts and dealing with them in two different ways. This novel has a romantic nature to it, as Ramsey has his own private island that he escapes to from the world. The banter and chemistry between Ramsey and Tierney sizzles and explodes as they think they can just work out their attraction. Watching the ease of this relationship build, and the protective nature that Ramsey embodies as Tierney goes further down the path of discovering what really happened to her family is perfectly balanced tension that plays beautifully off each other. This romance shows that sometimes love knows no age and that when two souls are truly meant to be together they will do anything and everything for the comfort and success of the other person.
Half-Light Harbor is a wonder beginning to this new series. Young has crafted this town and secondary characters that are sure to shine as they get their own installments, and this was an enriching start! I would definitely recommend this to romantic suspense readers and anyone who adores Samantha Young, you are sure to be entertained.
Thank you so much to Valentine PR for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
