Hold the Line is a deeply rich, sweetly romantic, love story about self redemption and growth. Julia Wolf is an author I have been meaning to check out for some time and I was not disappointed! This novel is the second in her Kelly Ranch series and I found it easily read as a standalone and a wonderful introduction into Wolf’s style. Wolf balances a lighthearted tone with situations and trauma that are soul deep. Wolf’s writing is clear and engaging, easily drawing her readers into the story and endearing them to the characters and the Kelly Family! This novel is sensually sweet with a lightness and ease to the chemistry and romance that really compliments the need to approach some of the harder topics head on.
This is Deacon and Phoebe’s romance, and I fell head over heels for them. Both have been harboring a crush since high school but Phoebe has self conscious and did not trust that he was really interested in her, and then Deacon was locked up in prison the last five years after taking the fall for his brother. After Deacon moves into the apartment above these two are able to reunite and build a strong foundation of friendship and trust. There is this beautiful ease to how these two fall into a pattern with each other. They are drawn through each other and through sweet actions and attentions their romance is built. This novel is also elegantly steamy and really highlights the beauty of their relationship in a clear way for the reader to easily see how these two benefit each other. I adored this romance which really focus on the growth, strength and understanding these two have for each other. Then we have the outside suspense of Deacon’s brother and his motives which provide this additional layer of intrigue.
I really enjoyed this novel, I loved getting to read Julia Wolf for the first time, I fell in love with her characters and I cannot wait to continue exploring her backlist!
