Friends to Lovers is the line that Laura Pavlov walks in the fifth installment of the Rosewood River series. Each of these novels has started with the couples interactions being driven by tension and contentions Pavlov's banter shines as a bit of battle of wills plays out as the couple sidesteps interest and chemistry for their own perception of reality. I have found each installment in this series to be uniquely fun in their own ways and I have really loved seeing the Chadwick brother's each meet their match. Pavlov's writing is fun and engaging, her characters sparkle and shine, and the romances hits you in all the feels!
Wren and Axel were best friends, torn apart in a moment of misunderstanding and manipulation as they were both taking the risk of something more. It has been two years since they last spoke, but after an injury and having her horse sold out from under her, Wren is back in town, and is easily gravitated back into Axel's orbit. In a Heartbeat explores the love of friendship, the strong foundation this can create and what wonders might be if you take a chance on love. This romance also explores what it means to be betrayed by your family and coming to terms with how to trust yourself and lean on those who are always there for you. It is very clear from the beginning that Wren and Axel are meant to be, they both are always so aware of the other. It is also beautiful watching the ways Axel supports and shows up for Wren, even when they might appear to be at odds. The magic of a friends to lovers romance is that you are falling for the person who sees the true you and understands you on this other level. I loved watching these two find their way back to the other, give their trust whole heartedly, and be the cheerleader the other needed.
Laura Pavlov's small town romances are pure heart and I will always sing my praises loudly! In a Heartbeat is a lovely addition to Pavlov's universe and will bring a smile to anyone's face, especially if you love Beefcake, who has been a charming and epic secondary character who can show all the adults the true understanding and magic of love!
