I feel in love with the Carmichael family and Samantha Young years ago with her debut novel On Dublin Street, and I have been a faithful reader ever since. Young is an author I trust to give me the type of romance story that I can connect fully with and trust in the relationship and love that is being built. On Loverose Lane is the beautiful start to Young’s second generation series of the well loved family from her first series! Young crafts this novel with grace, humor and sensuality. Her writing is clear and engaging, her tone is open and natural, and each word and moment wraps around me like a warm and comforting hug. This novel is a gift to any seasoned reader of Young’s, as well as serving as an easy entrance point into her writing and this family!
I easily fell in love with this novel and our wonderful hero and heroine-Callan and Beth. I love that these two are at a place in their lives where their careers are in a good place and that they both are a bit in need of a change in order to find the perfect balance. Callan and Beth also know each other from their high school years, they were almost lovers, but a misunderstanding and loyalty to others tears them apart. I enjoyed the peppering of the past that Young employs in order to provide us the history we need, and I also like that she holds this until the moments we need to know (as well as the story is not over shadowed by the past). These have this beautiful push and pull and banter that carries them from a tentative relationship, to a fake dating with benefits, to best friends and lovers. This novel is sexy and sensual, it is compassionate and gratifying, it is full of heart and growth. I really enjoyed being on this journey of rediscovery of first and only love. I loved that these two learn from their past and are brave enough to communicate, trust and understand.
I will never not recommend Samantha Young, she is one of those authors that works for me, takes me on a beautiful journey and always leaves me feeling whole!
