A gentle and heartfelt marriage of convenience graces these pages in Samantha Young’s fourth installment in the Highland series. Young through beauty and care crafts a love story of trust and understanding while embracing the beauty and simplicity of Highland farm life. Her characters are intricate and full of depth, her world building is evocative and this story has a gentle charm giving it a softer feel.
This is Alegra and Jared’s love story, two people from different backgrounds but whose souls see a companion all the same. This story starts as one of convenience but easy morphs into something so much greater. These two learn to open themself up and trust in the other. The kindness, and gentleness they show to the other ripples with chemistry. As these two find what they were missing in each other we see their relationship bloom in the soft moments of everyday, the sensual tension and physically the erupts hotly between them, and the strength and safety they provide to the other. I loved watching them both stand up for the other as well as learn to stand up for themselves. This novel is not the suspense filled rollercoaster that the other novels have been but rather one that focus on the inner turmoils we carry and how we learn to overcome them and learn to love ourselves fully.
This novel is definitely one I would recommend to anyone who loves this series and Samantha Young’s work. Although this is a standalone, I do believe to holds more depth when read in order with the others as we get glimpse of these two as they are growing up from young adulthood.
Thank you so much to Valentine PR for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
