The Drawback of Single Dads by Piper Rayne

Piper Rayne's second generation Bailey novels continue to charm and delight with their newest release-The Drawback of Single Dads. This novel wraps together a best friends to lovers trope with second chance, as these two best friends and co-parents decide to risk it all for love. The Lake Starlight series is fast paced, small town charming, extended family and friends group of novels that are perfect if you are looking for a quick escape. Piper Rayne's writing is conversational, clear and very easy to quickly engage with. Through the use of beloved tropes, characters who are easy to fall and root for, and a fairly low angst romance they offer the reader an interesting and delightful romance.

Hudson and Palmer are best friends who after one drunken night, find themselves pregnant. But with clear expectations and closing off of hearts these two co-parent their daughter with ease and offer support to each other as they remain in the friend zone. Now that their daughter is almost four she begins to question why her family looks the way it does and others look different. The love and respect that Hudson and Palmer have for each other is very clear throughout every moment, but they both most learn to navigate the new found jealousies they are experiencing as well as examining the romantic relationships they currently might be in. This romance is one of unrequited love, it is one of worry, but it is one that is truly inevitable. As these two start to embrace a new chapter in their relationship we see them carefully navigate how they present themselves to their daughter and the world around them. I love that the foundation of their relationship is strongly built on friendship and trust, because of these it is clear to see and understand the love they have for each other and it is delightful to watch them embrace that love for romantic kind it truly is.

The Drawback of Single Dads is the fourth installment of this series, but easily read as a standalone, and a wonderful edition to Piper Rayne's ever growing Bailey universe!

Thank you so much to Valentine PR for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
