Book Review

The Hotshot is the first in Piper Rayne's The Dugout series, and it embraces the strength of heart after tragedy. This novel weaves together the lightness of new love, with the complexities of finding your life forever changed. Piper Rayne beautifully balances care, tone, understanding, and strength as this family born from happenstance takes root. This romance is not only two people finding their happily ever afters, but a family finding a new safety and hope for the future.

Leighton finds herself the guardian of her three nieces and nephew after their parent's tragically die. It is in the sleepless nights, the constant worrying, and the dream to provide these children with everything she has that drives her to fight for them in the face of a custody battle. Leighton finds support in her brother's best friend Hayes, a professional baseball player, and someone she has been fighting feelings for over the past many years. These two have chemistry that sings! I also adore how Hayes easily falls into this family life and he embraces Leighton's nieces and nephew as his own. The Hotshot is at times heart wrenching, but it constantly shows the strength of spirit and the power of love.

Piper Rayne is an author duo I always find to have a lighthearted and fun way of crafting a well balanced, and paced romance. The Hotshot was a wonderful example of what makes their work engaging and romantic! I can not wait to see where this series goes, it is sure to be one that will leave your heart full of the magic of romance!

The full cast narration of this book was a wonderfully immersive way to experience this story. Each voice actor did a wonderful job embodying their characters and bringing this story vividly to life.
