Wow! Wow! Wow! This series just continues to get better and better! Samantha Young is truly in her element with The Highland series. Young’s writing blossoms with imagination, humor, heart and true emotion. Her characters dance with life and each story is a journey of romance, friendship and abiding love. The balance between plot and character development is true perfection and this novel will grip the reader from page one and sweep them up in a story of unexpected love, of understanding and support, and learning to value yourself. You absolutely must pick up this novel if you are a lover of Samantha Young’s work, or love a contemporary romance with a light suspenseful element, or have been meaning to pick up a book by Young. Basically just do yourself a favor and pick up this book immediately!
This is the romance between Sarah, an introverted secret author, and Theo, an English screenwriter and director. These two at first glance seem like absolute opposites of the other, but after just a light scratching at the surface it is apparent that they are two like souls. This novel is truly the inner journey of both character’s learning to find peace with their pasts, accept themselves for who they are, and learn to fully trust another. I love that they both have a mutual respect for the other that grows out of a shared love of writing, Young beautifully shows this through their weeks alone writing together, accepting help and criticism, bouncing ideas off the other, and they ultimately opening themselves up to a physical exploration of their feelings. I adored watching these two fall slowly in love with each other. I could see that their love was truly born of respect and understanding for the other. I loved watching them open up to the other because they could see they both had harder and more complicated pasts than what was on the surface. I loved that I could trust Samantha Young to explore this relationship with a level of care and understanding that made these two feel real, and like people I could be friends with.
If you love a romance that is build with a gravity of emotion, then you will love Through the Glen. If you adore Samantha Young’s works, then this is just another gem to add to your collection! I can truly not recommend this book enough. I cannot recommend this series enough! You just have to read this novel, and series, to truly understand.
