Thea and Shep are utter perfection! Wow this story just leap off the page and is continued proof of the genius that is Catherine Cowles! I easily fell into this story, wrapped up in the world that Thea is trying to protect herself from and the kindness and care of Shep as he slowly breaks down her walls. Cowles writing is full of care and understand as she builds the complicated histories of both main characters. It is clear that she understands these characters and their motivations with a clarity that give them the depth and dimensionality needed for the readers to easily understand and fall in love with them. This novel highlights the strength of family that Cowles imbues in all of her series, creating a world that is easy to fall in love with, characters that are engaging and real, and an anticipation for what might happen next.
Since Fractured Sanctuary (the first novel in this series), I knew I was going to easily fall in love with Thea and Shep. These two souls were made to find each other, they would made to care for each other, and they were made to give each other strength. This novel, like Cowles is known to do, gives us the perfect insight to Thea's past and gives us the context we need to understand where she currently is in her life. The reader is then able to watch Shep unravel her past, and prove that he is a. man worth Thea's trust. There is a beautiful layer of care on consent as Shep shows Thea that he is a good man who wants to help and protect her. Cowles is a writer that truly understands the need to show the soft moments of romance and how these moments are what build up and create a combustible chemistry. Cowles knows that it is in the everyday moments the relationships are built and through these moments Shep and Thea are able to truly create a deeper understanding of each other and learn how best to be the strength and support the other needs. With a strong romance at the center, then the intrigue of the suspense can really bloom and keep the reader guessing who is going to be the ultimate catalyst. Cowles has a way of always distracting me from who the real suspect is and through this the reader can also experience the same betrayal that her character feel as well.

Pick up this series today, you are sure to full in love this Cowles brand of romantic suspense that perfectly focuses on the creation of a strong relationship that can overcome any outside force that might wish to tear it apart. Delicate Escape is the second in this series and although it can be read as a standalone I would recommend reading Cowles' novels in series order because so much of the family and world building happens through the novels. You absolutely must pick up this novel, this series, and every other work Cowles has written!
